Before the Buddha was able to teach this Sutta, he had to pursue perfections for a seemingly infinite length of time (during which he dedicated his countless lives to discover the truth, and within which he attained Enlightenment in his last life). We therefore have to review it so humans and angels have a chance to listen to it.
